We heard from various sources in Evora that we should hit Quetzal winery on our way south to the Algarve region of Portugal. This place is about as out of the way as you can get! The car couldn’t find it, but fortunately google android could. We had to drive through a community of about 400 people who gave us the strangest looks (our jeep is VERY dirty after visiting the megalithic sites). The winery was beautiful, and the wines were very good. Wish we could send a couple cases home!
The Antao Vaz was excellent! So expensive at 8.60! This wine would crush nearly any white wine under $30 in CA.
The community has only 400 Portuguesanarians? GO BACK AND CONQUER IT! While you are there at Quetzal you might want to stop in at the nearby Saint Cucuphas Monastery where you’ll find the oldest wine cellar in Portugal. Not that you’re into old rocks and old wine, but you might get a kick out of the monk’s funny haircuts. “The Antao Vaz was excellent.” is a good start.
